About the Author Mrs. Jennifer Giscombe Williams is a Jamaican first-time author. She has been a Christian for almost 50 years. She has a Certificate in Business Studies from the Joint Examination of the London Chamber of Commerce and Industry and The Royal Society of Arts Examination Board. She also has a B.Sc in Management Studies, a M.Sc in Social Policy and a Diploma in Gender and Development Studies, all from the University of the West Indies. Her other qualifications include a Certificate of Participation in Counselling - A Rights-Based Approach from the Coalition on the Rights of the Child, a Certificate of Attendance for the Workshop on the ‘ Inter-American system of human rights and the promotion and defence of the rights of the child’, a Certificate of Completion on Holistic Child Development from the Caribbean Graduate School of Theology and a Teacher’s Certificate from Jamaica Child Evangelism Fellowship. Mrs. Giscombe Williams has worked in the banking industry, the gender and development field, and as a Human Resources Manager. During these years, she has gained extensive experience in addressing issues concerning gender-based violence, domestic violence, violence against women and girls, child abuse, and human resources issues, among other She was also a Sunday School Teacher for some time. Her most significant experience in dealing with child abuse came when she worked in the gender and development field, where she participated in matters relating to children in local, regional and international fora, including the United Nations with a focus on ‘a World Fit for Children’. She has been engaged in discussions, planning and policies about childcare and child protection. She supervised the Research and Policy Department at the Bureau of Women’s Affairs, Jamaica. She has also made several presentations on child abuse and gender-based violence at workshops in schools, communities and churches in her home country, Jamaica. She was a Board member of the Women’s Centre of Jamaica Foundation, which facilitates continuing education for girls who have dropped out of the formal school system due to pregnancy and return to the formal school system after the birth of their babies. She was also the Chair of the public education sub-committee of the National Task Force Against Trafficking in Persons in Jamaica. Mrs. Giscombe Williams has also sat on several Committees concerning matters relating to children. These include child labour and children in extremely difficult circumstances.
